Rafa Nadal admits to injuring hand during US Open in emotional video
Rafa Nadal will not be playing at this year’s Rolex Shanghai Masters 1000 due to a wrist injury that he says he sustained during the US Open
Rafa Nadal has sent a video to the fans in shanghai apologising for having to withdraw from this year’s tournament and explaining that he looks forward to being back next year. But the most interesting aspect of the video was Nadal’s admission that he injured his hand at the US Open which has prevented him from playing or practising since then.
Nadal won the US Open beating Daniil Medvedev in the final but at the time no-one knew he was injured and it didn’t look like it was hampering his play but obviously the injure has been sever enough for him not to be able to play since, which is nearly 4 weeks now.

Nadal has never managed to win the Shanghai Masters during his incredible career and in fact he’s never won an indoor tournament. He has made it to the final twice in the tournament’s short 10 ear history but lost on both occasions, in 2009 to Nikolay Davydenko and then in 2018 to Roger Federer.
With Nadal’s withdrawal it will mean a No.2 seeding for Federer helping him by guaranteeing he won’t face world No.1 Novak Djokovic until the final, assuming they were both to progress that far
