Beaten US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev explains why tennis is such a tough sport

A smiling Daniil Medvedev used his post match press conference after his US Open final loss to Rafa Nadal to explain why he believes tennis is such a difficult sport to play

Even though he had just achieved a dream and reached the final of a Grand Slam for the very first time, Daniil Medvedev was keen to highlight why he believes tennis is so tough to play, not just as a professional but for all amateurs as well.

Medvedev was specifically asked about how difficult it was for him to keep his focus in the 5th set and not simply enjoy the moment and think about what he had achieved already during his 2 weeks at the 2019 US Open. He responded very honestly that tennis is such as tough sport because you are on your own with no-one to help you

Medvedev said, “It wasn’t a difficult situation (the 5th set) because I have been playing tennis for 17 years and I’ve had a lot of big matches so i’m ready for this moment to just be there and try to win the match. So it wasn’t a matter of fear or losing concentration in the 5th set,it’s just 2 tennis players fighting against each other. I’ve always said that tennis is a tough sport because you are only against yourself and your opponent. You don’t have a team behind you to support you, you don’t have anyone. He was the better player today”
