Coco Gauff shows off incredible maturity ahead of blockbuster US Open match
Coco Gauff showed the full range of all the things that makes her a special talent as she set-up a US Open match with reigning champion Naomi Osaka.
Gauff, 15, was severely tested on Armstrong by Hungarian Timea Babos, but fought and scrapped her way to an impressive 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win that showed resilience way beyond her years.
“Timea played so good and I’m so happy to get through,” Gauff reflected.
“I was tested a lot. We both just tested each other. If I didn’t win the last point maybe she would have won the match.”
Gauff was quizzed after the match by reporters as excitement built over her third-round match against Osaka, but all they got was a snapshot of Gauff’s surprising maturity.
“I don’t have any thoughts on it right now because I have to play doubles tomorrow with Caty [McNally] so I’m really focused on that,” Gauff said.
