Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal joined on unbelievable list by German veteran
Philipp Kohlschreiber has joined legends Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on a list of 7 current male players that have maintained a position in the World’s top 100 for at least 700 consecutive weeks
It seems incredible that even one player could achieve this feat but a generation of players brought up on a mix of healthy diets, obsession with fitness, advanced equipment & training techniques plus the ability to rest their bodies when necessary, means that there are now 7 players who have been ranked in the ATP Tour top 100 for over 13 consecutive years each!
The leader ion the group is of course Roger Federer who has been ranked in the top 100 for a mind boggling 1,035 weeks, which is very nearly 20 years. The rest of the famous group of 7 is made up of Djokovic, Nadal, Kohlschreiber plus Fernando Verdasco, Giles Simon and Richard Gasquet, who put paid to Andy Murray’s return to competitive singles last night in Cincinnati.
The list as of August 1st 2019 looks like this:
Roger Federer – 1034 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 3
Rafael Nadal – 850 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 2
Fernando Verdasco – 804 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 33
Richard Gasquet – 746 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 56
Novak Djokovic – 735 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 1
Gilles Simon – 705 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 35
Philipp Kohlschreiber – 700 weeks in Top 100 – current ranking 73
Of the 7, Djokovic, Federer and simon are the only ones competing in the Cincinnati Masters this week hoping to keep their streak alive for another week. Ranked at 75 right now it seems that Kohlschreiber has most to be worried about the prospect of dropping out of the Top 100 and ending his streak.
