Carlos Alcaraz reveals diagnosis after injury scare at Rio Open
Carlos Alcaraz has revealed the results of the MRI scan on his ankle, after the Spaniard was forced to retire from his match in Rio de Janeiro after only two games.
Alcaraz was playing home wildcard Thiago Monteiro in the Brazil on Tuesday, where he went over on his ankle in only the second point of the match and subsequently retired.
Just so unfortunate…

There were a lot of fears for fans of the world No.2, who had concern that he would be unable to defend his Indian Wells title next month.
However, Alcaraz appears to have put those fears to bed and confirmed that he should be ready in time for both Indian Wells and the Netflix exhibition match with Rafael Nadal in Las Vegas.
“I just had an MRI on my ankle after yesterday’s injury, and I have a grade 2 lateral sprain that will keep me out of action for a few days,” Alcaraz said on social media. “See you in Las Vegas and Indian Wells!”

The exhibition with Nadal takes place on Sunday 3rd March, with Alcaraz then heading to the Californian desert for the start of the sunshine double in Indian Wells.

Thankfully it seems as though the ankle injury looked a lot worse for Carlos Alcaraz than it actually was. It has been a bit of a up-and-down season so far for Alcaraz, who will probably be disappointed with his results so far in relative terms after impressing so much after the past couple of years. However, the Wimbledon champion will probably have an extra fire in his belly at Indian Wells as defending champion, especially with Jannik Sinner breathing down his neck in the ATP rankings.
