Andy Murray reveals he still has ‘ambitions’ to compete for Wimbledon titles
Andy Murray has claimed that he still believes a third Wimbledon title is a ‘possibility’, and has hinted at his plans for Roland Garros after another disappointing result on the clay.
Murray lost his opening match of the Madrid Masters for the first time in a straight sets defeat to Andrea Vavassori, and the two-time event champion has spoken about whether he will still compete at Roland Garros despite being winless so far in the clay court season.
“I would like to play, just purely because I don’t know if I’ll get another opportunity to play again. Whilst I feel fit and healthy, I would like to give it a go,” said Murray.
Although Roland Garros is the next major event, it appears that the former No.1 has his attention on Wimbledon where Murray has won two of his three major titles.
“I also have ambitions of, you know, competing for Wimbledon titles and that sort of stuff, and I know that sitting here today that probably doesn’t sound realistic, but I do believe that that’s a possibility. I obviously want to do the right thing there,” explained Murray.
He continued, “The experiences I have had when I have won Wimbledon has been in 2013 when I didn’t play the French Open and won, and 2016 I had my best French Open and won Wimbledon. It didn’t have an impact necessarily.
“It’s impossible to say what the right thing to do is, but obviously it’s a Grand Slam. I would like the opportunity to play.”
