Nick Kyrgios admits he plans to retire if he wins a Grand Slam
Nick Kyrgios has dropped a major hint that he will quit tennis if he ever wins a singles Grand Slam.
The often controversial yet always captivating Australian already has one Grand Slam title to his name – the Australian Open doubles crown that he won earlier this year with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
He came close to a maiden singles major in 2022 as well, but he lost in the Wimbledon final to an inspired Novak Djokovic performance.
Regardless of that defeat, there can be no doubt that Kyrgios’ star is brighter than ever in tennis, and it has seen his get new opportunities, such as an invitation to the World Tennis League exhibition in Dubai.
While he is grateful for it, though, he is unsure if he would do it again with him claiming the stress of success, whilst enjoyable, is also something that he finds challenging.
“Hopefully I can win a slam and just retire,” he said as he prepared for the Australian Open, where he will be one of the favourites.
“Would I sign [to play the World Tennis League] again? Honestly, I don’t know about it.

“It took a lot of hard work this season, a lot of discipline and it seems the better you do, everyone wants a bit more of you and it becomes more stressful.”
While his 2022 season was a tougher schedule than he has been used to because of his increased levels of professionalism, Nick Kyrgios has also admitted he feels better for committing himself to tennis properly.
“I had a lot of fun this season,” he admitted. “And I’m finally just proud to say I made a slam final and started to meet some expectations.
“I had a lot of fun, I enjoyed it, definitely felt better off and on the court.”
