Andy Murray is hopeful for the future of British tennis
Andy Murray predicts a ‘bright future’ for youngsters Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu.
Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion, was confident about both going on to have great careers.
He told Evening Sport, ‘’Jack has got huge potential and only done six or seven months on tour. I’ve been lucky enough to practise with him and spend time with him.’’
“The future’s really bright for him but also with Emma Raducanu. And there’s a couple of junior prospects on the women’s side that the coaches are pretty excited about.”
Draper has enjoyed a breakthrough season on the ATP tour, reaching a ranking of number 41 after starting the year way out of the top 100.
He has won four ATP Challenger events this year and also reached his first ATP semi final at the Eastbourne Invitational.
In August, Draper reached a maiden quarter final at a Masters 1000 at the Canadian Open, defeating third seed Stefanos Tsitispas in a stunning upset.
He backed this up further with a straight sets victory over Felix Auger Aliassime in the second round of the US Open on his way to his best slam appearance so far. This result looks even better in hindsight given Auger-Aliassime’s stunning form this autumn.
He is now the British number 3, ahead of Andy Murray but behind Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans. He is currently competing at the Next Gen finals, being the first British man to do so.
Meanwhile, Raducanu has struggled with injuries and consistency this season after her astonishing US Open victory. Nevertheless, she still remains the British number 1 and has defeated former Grand Slam champions in Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka this year.
