Aussie Saville lifts boys’ singles trophy

Australian Luke Saville today defeated Britain’s Liam Broady 2-6 6-4 6-2 to become the 2011 Wimbledon Boy’s Singles Champion.

Broady, a 17-year-old left-hander from Stockport, took the first set for the loss of only two games, but it was the Australian who came back from a set and a break down to take the next two sets to seal the match.

Talking about the second set after the encounter, Broady said: “For the duration of the match I don’t think I served my best,” he said. “Obviously he’s a good returner and he’s a good player, so in parts of the match he’s going to make it tough. That’s why he’s in the finals. He managed to break me and he started to serve better. It just slipped away.”

Luke Saville, who started playing tennis when he was five-years-old, takes the trophy back to Kingston in Australia. Ranked at No.17 in the ITF Rankings, Saville represented Australia in the 2008 World Junior Tennis Finals and 2009 Junior Davis Cup.
