Andy Murray explains why Emma Raducanu shines brightest at US Open
Andy Murray has backed Emma Raducanu to have another strong open and explained why the conditions there suit her so much.
Raducanu had an incredible run at the US Open last year as she became the first qualifier to ever win a major.
Her form has faltered since then, although she produced some scintillating tennis in Cincinnati as she bageled both Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
And, according to Murray, there is something very specific about playing the American tournaments that brings the best out of Emma Raducanu.
“I think she played really well last week,” Andy Murray said of Raducanu’s recent form.
“I watched a couple of her matches. I saw most of the match against Serena and then the one against Jessica Pegula. Even though she lost that one she is playing much better.
“The balls they use over here help a lot, they are a lot lighter, the women’s ball. That allows her to get more on her shots, on her serves, she seems like she enjoyed the conditions last week.
“I’d imagine with it being quick here in New York she will enjoy them. I’d expect her to play well next week.”
Emma Raducanu will certainly have to play well at the US Open after she was handed a very tough draw.
