Carlos Alcaraz says successes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are ‘impossible’ to replicate

Carlos Alcaraz says fans should not expect him and his generation to repeat the achievements of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

The trio collectively known as the ‘Big Three’ have enjoyed unprecedented dominance of the ATP Tour for the last decade and a half.

They have won an astonishing 63 majors between them, with Nadal and Djokovic sharing the three so far this year too.

Carlos Alcaraz is leading an impressive new generation of talent that also includes the likes of Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Auger-Aliassime, but he is keen to temper expectations.

When asked by Punto de Break if he sees his generation replicating the achievements of the Big Three, Alcaraz said: “No, I didn’t think that.

“It’s not a lack of confidence in my abilities or those of my teammates, but I don’t think that I and the other young people can repeat what they have done.

“We are talking about an impossible company, and that is not in my thoughts at the moment.”

Carlos Alcaraz is widely regarded as the top young player today, and that is reflected in his current ranking of number four in the world.

He, though, is yet to go further than the last eight of a Grand Slam, and that is something he hopes to put right at the US Open.

“In New York, I want to do what I couldn’t do in the other Grand Slams, which is to get past the quarterfinals.

“I have no preference over which one to win first. I don’t think I should be picky about Grand Slam titles,” said Alcaraz.
