Naomi Osaka splits from coach as tough year continues for four-time major winner
Naomi Osaka is on the lookout for a new coach after Wim Fissette confirmed they have parted ways.
Osaka has been working under the tutelage of Fisette since 2019 and she has won two of her four Grand Slam titles during their time together.
This season has not been an easy one for Osaka, though, with her continuing to step back from tennis due to her troubles with anxiety.
She fell to number 85 in the world rankings before reaching the final of Miami but she then lost in the first round of Roland Garros.
An Achilles injury kept her out of Wimbledon, although she freely admitted beforehand she planned on skipping the tournament anyway due to there being no ranking points on offer.
“It has been a privilege to coach Naomi since 2019 and see her grow into the champion she has become,” Fissette said on Instagram. “She has inspired a whole new generation to fall in love with the game and to speak up for what they believe in.

“It’s been incredible to play a part in that journey. Thank you. I wish you all the best and looking forward to my next chapter.”
Fissette himself is unlikely to struggle to find more work. As well as Naomi Osaka, he has worked with major-winners Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber.
