Querrey battles to secure final berth

After going down 6-3 in the first set, the 21-year-old pulled out all the stops to win the second 6-3 and, coming back from 4-1 down in the final set, forced a tie-breaker that he convincingly won 7-4.

Querrey will now face top seed Juan Martin del Potro in the final after the world number nine defeated Sweden’s Robin Soderling 6-4 6-3.

Del Potro is chasing his fifth title tomorrow.

“I feel good, I think that’s only the second time in my career that I’ve come back from seven match points so it’s kind of nice to do that,” said. Querrey

“I thought I served well, especially in the third set.

“I didn’t want to lose my serve three times in a row in the third set so I was going to do whatever I had to do hold my serve and when I held it at two-five I thought I could break him.”

Ferrer, who won the Heineken Open title in 2007, was disappointed with the outcome of the match and was unhappy in himself for not closing out the win when he had the chance.

“It’s tough because I had the match in the third when I went a break up and had two match points,” he said. “He played more brave than me in the important moments and he won. I fought a lot and I tried to win my best games but I lost.”
