The Londoner, who has climbed to a career high 53rd in the world following her run to the semi-finals in Auckland last week, produced an assured performance in her 6-3 7-5 win over the fifth seed.
Keothavong, who next faces France’s Virginie Razzano, told her website, www.annekeothavong.co.uk: “I think it’s one of my best wins to date and I was pleased with my performance.”
The 25-year-old’s ranking is the highest by a British woman since Jo Durie was ranked 52nd in April 1993.
