Nishikori called it quits in the opening set with Ferrero leading 5-3.

Ferrero will play the winner of Tuesday’s match between defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber and Dominik Hrbaty.

Sixth seed Sam Querry also progressed with a straightforward 6-4 7-5 victory over Daniel King-Turner.

Robby Ginepri needed just 73 minutes to win his opening match, recording a 6-2 6-3 win over Jose Statham.

Viktor Troicki demolished Igor Kunitsyn 6-1 6-2 to set up a second-round clash with either eighth seed Juan Monaco or Victor Hanescu.
