WATCH: Felix Auger-Aliassime reaches second successive final after great act of sportsmanship


Felix Auger-Aliassime continues to win the hearts of the crowds as he extends his impressive start to the new year, reaching a second consecutive final after a great display of sportsmanship.

After breaking into the World’s top ten at the end of last year, rising Canadian star Auger-Aliassime has started the new season in fine form.

He began the new year by spearheading Canada to ATP Cup glory as captain, alongside World number 12 Denis Shapovalov.

He then stormed his way to the Australian Open semi-finals where he eventually lost to US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

The Canadian took a two-set lead against World number two Medvedev but with his momentum hampered by weather delays, Medvedev found a foothold in the game and went on to win three sets to two.

Immediately after the first Slam of the season Auger-Aliassime won the first ATP 500 event of the year, the Rotterdam Open.

This was his first individual ATP title in nine attempts as he beat the likes of three-time Slam champion Andy Murray, reigning Indian Wells victor Cameron Norrie and World number seven Andrey Rublev.

Now, the World number nine has reached yet another final at this week’s Marseille Open 13. He will again face Andrey Rublev but this time in the final.

During his semi-final match, the Canadian informed opponent Roman Safiullin that he may want to challenge a point which was initially deemed to be out. The point was in fact in and Safiullin won the point, to the detriment of Auger-Aliassime who requested he challenge.

After an impressive start to the new season, Auger-Aliassime will be looking to consolidate his excellent form as he competes in next week’s Dubai Tennis Championships. He will be joined by Rublev, Italian sensation Jannik Sinner and 20-time Slam legend Novak Djokovic.
