Jannik Sinner confirms identity of new coach as he targets further breakthroughs
Jannik Sinner has confirmed Simone Vagnozzi will replace Riccardo Piatti as he his new coach.
Sinner has been linked to a number of names in recent weeks, with John McEnroe, Boris Becker and Magnus Norman all being reported as potential coaching targets for the 20-year-old.
He, though, has opted for a less well-known name, with Vagnozzi chosen to handle the next stage of his development.
“Happy to announce I’ll be working with Simone Vagnozzi as my coach moving forward and he will be heading up my team,” Sinner confirmed on Twitter.
“Currently we have no plans to add any more team members at this time but we will review the situation as we go. Excited to get started on this new chapter, Forza.”
Vagnozzi could not be further from the likes of Becker and McEnroe when it comes to his prominence in the sport.
He was an unremarkable player whose highest world ranking was 161 and never qualified for a single Grand Slam as a singles competitor.

The 38-year-old has had more success as a coach, though, helping guide Marco Cecchinato to the French Open semi-finals in 2018 and also working with Stefano Travaglia.
Earlier in the week, Jannik Sinner ended weeks of speculation by splitting with Piatti, who he had worked with from a very young age.
“After many successful years together, my coaching team and I have decided to part ways,” he said.
“I’d like to thank Riccardo, Dalibor, Claudio, Andrea, Cristian, and Gaia for everything they have done for me from the beginning of my career until now.
“Riccardo especially, he taught me many things that will forever remain a part of my tennis.
“Many special memories were made and I’ll always look back on the time we spent together fondly.”
