John McEnroe unlikely to coach Jannik Sinner as he now targets Boris Becker instead
Boris Becker has emerged as a potential ‘super-coach- solution for Jannik Sinner after links with John McEnroe cooled.
Sinner made some real progress in the rankings last year and is the youngest player in the top ten right now.
He left home at just 13-years-old to train with Riccardo Piatti at his academy, and the Italian has handled his career since.
However, reports in Italy have suggested Sinner has grown frustrated with Piatti’s commitments elsewhere, which often sees him unable to accompany the 20-year-old to tournaments.
Sinner’s frustration appears to have been amplified to his humbling 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open.
After that match he said: โI know that I have to improve many, many things, and this, for me today, was a lesson.
โI have to improve [my] tennis in general. I have to serve better. I have to do everything [better], especially when you play against the best guys.โ
McEnroe had been linked with Sinner as a new coach and he said he would be available on a ‘part-time basis’ but the Gazetta dello Sport claim that potential link-up is now dead in the water.
Instead, Jannik Sinner is said to be exploring the possibility of linking-up with Boris Becker, who had a spell coaching world number one Novak Djokovic.
Magnus Norman is another name mentioned, with the Swede and Sinner both being clients of the same management company.
