Sanchez Vicario future uncertain

Under Sanchez Vicario’s captaincy, Spain this weekend reached their sixth Davis Cup final – after thumping reigning champions the United States 4-1 – where they take on Argentina in November, but it remains to be seen if 43-year-old Sanchez Vicario will continue his tenure afterwards.
Real Federacion Espanola de Tenis (RFET) president Munoz admits the Davis Cup final could well be the captain’s swansong, saying: “I think that Emilio will not continue, but he hasn’t told me anything official.”
He added: “It’s true that in Rome he said that he would quit, in the same way that (Spain football coach) Luis Aragones did, but things that are said can change.
“He could have said it due to his mood at the time or because of the circumstances and after the final he could have a change of opinion.”
Munoz also hopes Sanchez Vicario’s future will not be the centre of attention in the build-up to the Davis Cup final, saying in Marca: “I want Emilio to be calm to face the final.
“I will be in the stands giving my support to the team as I was this weekend.”
