Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty retain World number one spots, whilst Emma Raducanu reaches new career high


Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty have retained their respective number one spots, whilst Emma Raducanu has reached a new career high ranking following the conclusion of the Australian Open. 

Despite withdrawing from the ATP Cup and being deported just one day before the Australian Open began, 20-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic has retained his World number one position following World number two Daniil Medvedev’s final loss to Rafael Nadal.

Should Medvedev have won, he would be the new World number one. Although, Nadal’s comeback against US Open victor Medvedev saw him win a record-breaking 21st Slam.

As such he overtook both Djokovic and Federer in the total Slam tally as the ‘Big Three’ compete against each other to end their careers as the most successful male player of all time.

Matteo Berrettini is the only player to rise in the men’s top ten after reaching the semi-finals, switching places with Andrey Rublev who was  ranked sixth.

Similarly, Ash Barty’s maiden home Slam has seen her remain as the World number one in the women’s field. Home favourite Barty stormed to her first ever Australian Open title, doing so without dropping a single set.

After beating 2017 US Open ace Sloane Stephens in the first round, British sensation and defending US Open champion Emma Raducanu has reached a new career high ranking of 13th in the world.

Reigning French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova reached the quarter-finals of the singles, as well as winning the ‘Happy Slam’ doubles, and has risen one spot into third.

Iga Swiatek reached her first semi-final outside of a clay court and has moved from ninth into fourth. Whilst Danielle Collins burst into the top ten, rising a total of 20 places going from 30th to tenth.

Finally, Garbine Muguruza entered as the World number three but suffered a shock defeat to Alize Cornet in the second round which saw her drop to seventh. Cornet then went on to reach her first Slam quarter-final and rose 24 places from 61st to 37th.
