Safin handed BNP Paribas Masters 1000 wildcard

Former BNP Paribas Masters 1000 champions Marat Safin and Sebastien Grosjean have both been handed wildcard entries for the tournament, the last event of the regular season.

Safin, who is set to retire from the sport after the event, won the indoor tournament three times during his career, with his last triumph coming in 2004.

The Russian former world No.1, who has endured a torrid time in his final season, reached the semi-finals of the St Petersburg Open last week before falling 6-4 4-6 6-4 to Sergiy Stakhovsky.

Home favourite Grosjean, currently ranked No.707 in the world after undergoing shoulder surgery last December and making only fleeting appearances in 2009, triumphed in 2001.

Compatriot Michael Llodra, runner-up to Ivan Ljubicic at the Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon on Sunday, has also been given a wildcard.

The competition is the ninth and final ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the season, and will get underway in the French capital from November 8-15.
