Murray, and partner Hewitt, were preparing to face the number five seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach for a place in the quarter-finals of the doubles when rain interrupted play at Queen’s Club in London.

The tournament’s number one seed in the singles will, rain allowing, commence his quest to win a first singles title on grass when he faces Italian Seppi on the centre court on Wednesday.

Play begins at 12.30pm, and Murray’s match is scheduled to be the second on court. But with more rain forecast, the Scot may be kept waiting again.

Murray and Hewitt had been hoping to maintain their progress in the doubles, having already defeated Rajeev Ram and Andy Roddick.

The pair were due to follow the men’s singles clash between Gael Monfils and Andrey Golubev, however rain held up proceedings at 6pm.

The covers were later taken off, with Golubev looking favourite to clinch the second set and level the match.

There has been considerable anticipation for Murray’s first appearance in the singles tournament, as he looks to fine-tune his game ahead of Wimbledon.

The world number three should make light work of world number 48 Seppi who beat Robby Ginepri in the first round, as Murray received a bye.
