Ferrero, currently ranked 115, converted four of 12 break points to clinch a 6-3 7-5 victory over his Romanian opponent in one hour and 33 minutes.

The 2003 French Open winner, making his first appearance at the Morocco tournament, is now set to face top seed Igor Andreev in his first ATP Tour semi-final since January 2008 when he was runner-up in Auckland.

The 29-year-old holds a 3-1 advantage over Russian Andreev who made the last four thanks to a comfortable 6-1 6-3 win over Frenchman Marc Gicquel.

The world number 22 converted four of eight break points and dropped just five points in the 53-minute match.

The victory means the 25-year-old has reached his first World Tour semi-final since July 2008 when he reached back-to-back finals at Gstaad and Umag.

Third seed Albert Montanes also reached the last four after a 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 triumph over Frederico Gil.

The Spaniard, currently a career-high world number 35, is through to his first semi-final since July 2008 when he went on to claim his first title at Amersfoot.

The 28-year-old will face fifth seed Florent Serra who cruised past unseeded Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-0 6-4 in little over an hour.
