Mirza started strongly in sweltering conditions against the top seed but after Zvonareva edged the first set in just under an hour, the Russian eased through the second against a fading fifth seed and recorded a 7-5 6-1 victory.
In-form Zvonareva, 24, did not drop a set all week and continued the form which saw the Russian reach the semi-finals at the Australian Open with a deserved eighth career title.
“Sania played well all week,” said Zvonareva. “She played great tennis, and I’m sure we will have many more tough matches.”
“Vera played very well, I did what I could, but she played better,” said Mirza.
The win helped Zvonareva level the her career record against Mirza at 1-1 after losing to the Indian at the 2005 Japan Open.
