Emma Raducanu calls for a ‘little patience’ after stunning US Open triumph

Emma Raducanu has insisted there is ‘no pressure’ on her, though has called for patience following her US Open triumph earlier this year.

The British star stunned the tennis world with a history-making title at Flushing Meadows and is now in pursuit of her first WTA tour level victory.

The 18-year-old made her first appearance since her US Open title win at Indian Wells a fortnight ago, though lost in her opener before withdrawing from the Kremlin Cup last week.

Now, the British sensation has her eyes firmly fixed on an encouraging run at the Transylvania Open in Cluj, Romania, though made clear there is little pressure on her.

“I don’t think there is any pressure on me,” the British number one said. “I feel like everyone should just be a little patient with me.

“I feel like I am the same person. I still go out there, approaching the same as before.

“I am really enjoying my tennis right now. I feel it will be in a great place. In the long term, I know it will be up and down, the past few weeks I have learned a lot about myself.”

Raducanu currently finds herself without a coach after deciding to split from Andrew Richardson after the US Open, though has trialled other coaches including Johanna Konta’s former coach Esteban Corril.

Despite numerous trials, the 18-year-old enters the Romanian event without a coach as she admits she is learning to coach and mentor herself.

“I am really excited for the next chapter. This end of the season and the next year I can play on the tour, like a full year, and that is the most exciting thing,” Raducanu added.

“Patience is key. Because, as I said, there are a lot of lows, where you learn about your game. You adjust to each level gradually.

“I kind of went from zero to the top of the game. So, it’s obviously going to take some time to adjust and adapt but hopefully with some good work I will be able to do that.”
