Emma Raducanu US Open 2021

‘Emma Raducanu is going to win Grand Slams,’ says three-time Major winner

A three-time Major winner is hugely confident that rising British star Emma Raducanu will go on to win many Grand Slams in her career after impressing at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

Virginia Wade, who was a spectator in Arthur Ashe Stadium as the 18-year-old battled past Shelby Rogers, believes Raducanu will have huge success and could even win the US Open this year.

The possibility of the Brit being a contender for the title at Flushing Meadows is somewhat remarkable given the 18-year-old was ranked world number 345 at the turn of the year and 338 heading into Wimbledon.

Following her fourth round win, the Brit was alerted to Wade’s presence in her interview and described the three-time Major winner as an ‘absolute legend’.

“She’s really good in all departments,” said Wade.

“She serves great, her groundstrokes are fantastic, her concentration is good, physically she is strong — she really has it all. She is going to win Grand Slams, for sure.”

Raducanu will face the toughest test of her career so far when she takes on 11th seed and Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic for a place in the semi-finals, though Wade believes a star is born regardless of the result.

“There’s a few categories that I rate players on,” said Wade.

“Athleticism, determination, technique, concentration, and an ability to improvise. Emma ticks all the boxes in my mind. She’s got a good physique. She’s quick, very athletic, and hits the ball beautifully in all areas.”
