Federer wins 80th career title in Cincinnati

The 33-year-old, who passed 300 wins at ATP Masters 1000 level with his second-round victory over Vasek Pospisil, claimed his sixth title in Cincinnati with a 6-3 1-6 6-2 victory over David Ferrer.

In the first Masters 1000 final to feature two players over the age of 30, Federer, who reached the final in Toronto the week before, went one better as he claimed his third title of the season.

"I'm very happy about the week," said Federer. "Just overall it went from good to great. Just really pleased that I was able to back up a tough week last week already."

Federer, who ended a four-match losing streak in Masters finals, now has 22 Masters 1000 titles – his last coming in Cincinnati two years ago. The world No.3 now heads to Flushing Meadows for the final Grand Slam of the year, bidding to win an 18th major – and a sixth in New York.

"Especially now I come in with great confidence," he said. "I can really rest now, rather than having to work on stuff, so it's just about maintaining. That's also really good for the mind… I know my game is where I want it to be. It's about just keeping that level up right now."
