‘I put pressure on myself,’ asserts Naomi Osaka after latest Olympics win

Naomi Osaka continued to impress on her Olympics debut in Tokyo as she cruised into the third round with yet another straight sets victory.

Following world No. 1 Ash Barty’s shock exit yesterday, the home favourite proved rock solid in her win over Swiss Victorija Golubic, triumphing 6-3 6-2 in an hour and five minutes.

After reaching the third round, the Japanese star admitted to putting pressure on herself after a recent lack of match practice.

“I put this pressure on myself to do well because I know that I don’t play that many tournaments,” said Osaka.

“For me, I feel like I’ve watched these players playing the tournaments while I was on my break, so I just really, really want to do well.

“I feel like as long as I work hard, relatively keep my head down, then good things will happen. For me, it’s dream to be here, to play the Olympics. This is my first one, so I’m just trying to cherish this experience.”

The two-time Grand Slam champion took to social media following her win, stating that she is ‘here for a good time’.
