Super Shapovalov surges to first Grand Slam semi-final


Denis Shapovalov won a five set thriller to reach his first ever Grand Slam semi-final at 2021 Wimbledon.

The world No. 12 defeated Russian Karen Khachanov 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 as he claimed the biggest win of his young career.

Shapovalov beat Britain’s Andy Murray on Centre Court in round three as he wowed the crowd with a stunning display of shot-making, winners and flair.

The Canadian won the opening set after crucially breaking for 5-4 and serving out the set in style.

From there, Khachanov responded with aggression and superb serving. A dip in intensity from Shapovalov saw the Russian take a two sets to one lead.

Shapovalov showed the heart of a champion. The fourth set was completely dominated by the 22-year-old, gaining back-to-back breaks to take it 6-1 and force a decider.

Momentum had completely switched, when the Canadian eventually broke in a crazy game for 5-4, he was on the verge of a career-best victory. Despite a nervy second serve, Shapovalov refocused and held comfortably to book his place in the last four. The Court One court roared as the youngster fell to the court in disbelief.

Djokovic has won all six meetings with the 22-year-old, although Shapovalov has played some exciting and entertaining tennis at this years Championships.
