Alexander Zverev best moments at Roland Garros 2021


With Alexander Zverev aiming to reach his second Major final, here is a look at his key moments en route to the last four.

1. Survives an early scare

In the opening round, the world No. 6 looked in danger of being upset by qualifier Oscar Otte when he lost the first two sets 6-3, 6-3. 

Zverev, though, never really came close to defeat against his fellow German – losing just four more games as he completed a swift comeback.

2. Another qualifier test

The 24-year-old was pushed by another qualifier in the second round – but came through in straight sets.

Russia’s Roman Safiullin took Zverev to tiebreaks in the first and third sets and was a break up in the second – but the German played better in the big moments.

3. Second set escape act

The sixth seed beat Serbian Laslo Djere in straight sets in the third round – but that does not tell the full story.

While the first and third sets were routine, Zverev recovered from 5-2 down to steal the second set 7-5 – after saving three set points with Djere serving at 5-3, 40-0.

4. Crushing Kei

The German then produced arguably his best display of the tournament to dismantle Kei Nishikori – who narrowly lost to Zverev in Rome last month.

This was expected to be another tough test, but after the 24-year-old edged the opening set, he lost only two more games against the world No. 49.

5. Another demolition job

Zverev met another unseeded player – Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-finals – and won by the exact same scoreline of 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

The sixth seed twice came from a break down in an opening set featuring seven service breaks, before steamrolling the tiring Spaniard – losing only six more points on serve.
