‘I will quickly forget about today’ – Karolina Pliskova on Italian Open humiliation
Karolina Pliskova said she will “quickly forget” about being demolished 6-0, 6-0 by Iga Swiatek in the final of the Italian Open.
The world No. 9 won just 13 of the 64 points played in the WTA 1000 title match.
The 29-year-old Czech won the title in Rome in 2019, and finished as runner-up last year when she was forced to retire in the final.
“Definitely not the best day in this tournament so far for me, but I think Iga was playing great tennis today and all the week. So congrats to her,” Pliskova said in her interview during the trophy ceremony.
“I think you have days like this in tennis where things are not going your way. I think that was the day today but I still tried, it was not really working for me.
“Anyway, I will just quickly forget about today. I think I had some great matches here, of course in the last couple of years I always (did) well.
“So, finals is always a great week, great tournament. Of course, thanks to my team for staying here all the time and supporting when things are not the best.”
