‘One of the best wins of my career’ – Cristian Garin after beating Daniil Medvedev
Cristian Garin said beating Daniil Medvedev to reach the Madrid Open quarter-finals was “one of the best wins” of his career.
The world No. 25 defeated the Russian 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 event on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Chilean will face either Matteo Berrettini or Federico Delbonis in the last eight.
“It means a lot. It’s so nice to play with a crowd again. I feel the difference. Very happy with the way I played today,” Garin said in an on-court interview.
“It was a very tough match for me. I think one of the best wins of my career, so I’m very happy. I think I played more solid (in the third set).
“He served worse than the second set (in the third). As he said, he doesn’t like much the clay, but he’s a great competitor. He serves well, it was a very tough match.
“Daniil is one of the players I like to watch. He is one of the players who is the future of the sport.”
