Alexander Zverev: ‘I don’t want to talk about the Next Gen anymore’
Alexander Zverev says he no longer wants to talk about the Next Gen – because he now considers himself established.
Zverev had long been seen as the leader of a talented crop of younger players who emerged on the ATP Tour a few years ago.
He has since reached a Grand Slam final, a semi-final, and won the ATP Finals, so Zverev says it’s time to consider teenage stars like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Lorenzo Musetti the ‘Next Gen’ instead.
“I don’t really want to talk about the Next Gen anymore,” Alexander Zverev said.
“Honestly, as I said the other day, it seems certain to me that guys like Alcaraz, Sinner or Musetti are going to be in direct competition for the big titles from 2024.”
“For my part, I am 23 years old, I am young, certainly, but the Next Gen now, it’s them.”
Zverev, meanwhile, moved into the semi-finals of Acapulco after receiving a walkover against Casper Ruud, who has suffered a wrist injury.
