Zizou Bergs was left heartbroken after losing a titanic battle against Flavio Cobolli in the Davis Cup semi-finals.
Bergs, who was consoled by Cobolli after the match, was seen with his head in his hands after forfeiting seven match point opportunities before losing to the Italian in three sets.
Cobolli, who was understandably ecstatic after defeating Bergs 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, secured Italy’s place in a third consecutive Davis Cup Final.
Remarkably, Cobolli won the sixth-longest tiebreak in Davis Cup history, defeating Bergs 17-15 in the final set.
The Italians, who have won the title twice consecutively, are aiming to become the first nation to win three consecutive titles since the United States in 1970.
As for Bergs, this was a heartbreaking defeat.
Koen Bergs says Zizou Bergs’ Davis Cup performance filled him with ‘indescribable pride’
Koen Bergs, the father of Zizou Bergs, has posted on social media following his son’s loss to Cobolli in the Davis Cup semi-finals.
The Belgian, who is ranked 91st on the ITF Masters Tour, sent a heartwarming message of support to Zizou.
On X [Twitter], Koen said: “My dear son Zizou.
“Watching you step onto the court during the Davis Cup filled me with indescribable pride. You carried not only your racket, but the weight of a nation’s hopes, and you gave everything you had for Belgium.

“Every serve, every sprint, every drop of sweat was proof of your courage and your heart.
“You did not play just for yourself—you played for your teammates, for your country, and for all of us who believe in you. I saw the fire in your eyes, the determination in your movements, and the love for Belgium shining through every point.
“As your father, I know the sacrifices you made, the endless hours of training, and the moments of doubt you overcame. In the Davis Cup, you showed the world the true meaning of dedication. You gave everything, and that is the greatest victory of all.
“No matter the score, you have already won in my eyes. You are a champion of spirit, a warrior of heart, and a son who makes his father endlessly proud.
The Davis Cup has to make a change… which is your preference?
“We lost the tie but you won respect of the tennis world. Happy to have shared this beautiful moment with all my family at my side. These are the moments we live for.
With all my love and admiration, your dad.”
Belgium’s last Davis Cup final
Belgium last reached the Davis Cup Final in 2017, losing 3-2 to France.
Lucas Pouille won the deciding contest, demolishing Steve Darcis 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 to win France’s 10th title in history.

Two years earlier, Belgium lost to an Andy Murray-led Great Britain team in the final.
Murray secured the historic victory for Britain, defeating David Goffin in straight sets to seal the tie. The result marked Great Britain’s 10th Davis Cup triumph.
Belgium are one of three nations to have reached three Davis Cup finals without winning the tournament, following Romania and India.
