Rafael Nadal has made a series of really strange comments about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s domination over the ATP Tour.
Speaking earlier this week, the legendary Spaniard gave his verdict on the duopoly that is swallowing up elite honours at an alarming rate.
Nine of the last 10 Grand Slam titles have gone to one of this duo, with only Novak Djokovic’s 2023 US Open triumph breaking what would be a ridiculous streak.
It would have been a supremacy unlike anything we have ever seen on the men’s side, except for the fact that we have just witnessed over two decades total and utter domination from a trio that included Rafael Nadal.

Speaking to El Larguero, first Nadal stated if he thought Joao Fonseca was ready to challenge Alcaraz and Sinner.
He then moved on to emphasise how important it is that, eventually, others emerge to challenge them and unsettle their current stranglehold over the elite tournaments.
The 39-year-old insisted: “They need someone to push them a bit because they have stood out from all the others, and in any version, they can beat anyone until they meet each other.
“Those of us watching from the outside have the feeling that even if they play badly, they will keep winning and reaching all the finals.”
Now, whilst his point might resonate with some supporters, it feels somewhat ironic and hypocritical coming from someone who helped hegemonise the ATP Tour alongside Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

The first Grand Slam title won by a member of the Big Three came from the latter of that trio, who claimed the 2003 Wimbledon title in emphatic fashion.
This kickstarted an unprecedented period, although this reign of terror only really began once Nadal joined him at the apex of the sport.
From 2004 until 2023, of the 75 possible major titles that were up for grabs, only 12 were won by a player outside of the Big Three.
That means that just three men won 84% of the sport’s greatest honours for a seemingly never-ending spell.

If he feels like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s dominance is boring, the hypocrisy on show is astounding considering how he, Federer and Djokovic operated over that 20-year period.
Nadal should just allow greatness to unfold, if that is to be the case. If someone emerges to challenge them, then so be it. If not, he’ll simply have to sit back and watch as his numerous records come under serious threat.
