Why Nick Kyrgios should not be underestimated after confirming his ATP return

Nick Kyrgios is set to return to the ATP Tour at the 2026 Brisbane Open.

The Australian, ranked 673 in the world, will hope for a better performance at the event than the one he registered in 2025.

Kyrgios remains one of the most talented players on Tour. However, since reaching the 2022 Wimbledon final, his career has been hampered by a plethora of injuries.

What would be a successful season for Nick Kyrgios in 2026?

Injuries are the only factor preventing Kyrgios from climbing back to the peak of the ATP Tour, and who’s to say he won’t achieve such this goal in 2026?

He is a star of the sport who’s ability should not be taken for granted.

Nick Kyrgios will be a threat at any ATP Tour event in 2026

Nick Kyrgios is a former Grand Slam finalist. This sort of achievement far from your run-of-the-mill accomplishment.

Reaching a Grand Slam final is an immense accomplishment, one that has been achieved by a very small group of players.

Yes, Kyrgios’ major final appearance was over three years ago; a lot of time has passed. However, the Australian is far from the finished article.

Injuries and Kyrgios’ motivation remain major question marks when discussing the Australian’s future in the sport. However, if he can move past these issues, there is no telling what the 30-year-old could achieve.

Kyrgios is a former top 15 player despite being an individual who seemingly does not love the sport in the way many of his peers do.

His ability somewhat makes up for that lack of desire, and if he can stay fit in 2026, he will pose a threat to any opponent he faces at ATP events.

Who do you think should receive a wild card for the 2026 Australian Open?

Players to receive a wild card for the 2026 Australian Open so far are: James Duckworth, Emerson Jones, Zarina Diyas, Patrick Kypson, and Elizabeth Mandlik.

There are still TEN spots up for grabs across the men’s and women’s game for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Will Nick Kyrgios stay injury free in 2026?

This factor is, of course, the biggest question mark surrounding the future success of Nick Kyrgios.

The Australian has competed on the Tour infrequently since 2022 due to various injuries, particularly concerning his knee and wrist.

His talent is undoubted, but if he cannot stay on the court, his talent counts for little.

Tennis can only benefit from such an enigmatic figure returning to the sport, and one can only hope Kyrgios’ physical state does not let him down again in 2026.
