Katie Boulter has bounced back from her poor 2025 season in emphatic style.
The 29-year-old endured a torrid 2025 campaign and fell out of the WTA top 100 at the start of this year.
However, the British star has recaptured her best form in recent months.
Boulter won her fourth WTA title at the Ostrava Open in February, and has continued to impress at the start of the clay-court swing.
What is stopping Katie Boulter from staying in the WTA top 20?
Boulter, who has historically struggled to perform at her best on clay, has advanced to the Rouen Open quarter-finals after beating Maria Timofeeva and Jacqueline Cristian.
If Boulter continues to shine on the WTA Tour, she could return to the British number one spot very soon.
Katie Boulter is out-performing her British peers on the WTA Tour
As things stand, Katie Boulter is set to rise to world number 61 following her victory over Jacqueline Cristian on Wednesday.

The British star has improved many aspects of her game this year, and is playing the best tennis of any British player on the WTA Tour.
Compared to her 2025 season, Boulter is holding serve and breaking her opponents’ serve more frequently, hitting fewer double faults and landing more first serves.
She is also winning more of her first and second-serve points, as per Tennis Abstract.
| Statistical Area [%] | 2025 | 2026 |
| Ace rate | 4 | 3.5 |
| Double-fault rate | 8.5 | 6.3 |
| First-serve percentage | 57.4 | 58.4 |
| First-serve points won | 63.8 | 67.4 |
| Second-serve points won | 42.5 | 47.3 |
| Hold percentage | 70.5 | 60.8 |
| Break percentage | 30.4 | 42.6 |
| Winning percentage | 41.7 | 70.6 |
Boulter’s increased level of play can be seen in her results: she has won 70.6 per cent of her matches this year – up 28.9 per cent from last year.
Boulter sits behind only Sonay Kartal and Emma Raducanu in the British WTA standings. With the way Boulter is playing, one would not bet against the 29-year-old from overtaking her two peers in the near future.
Highest-ranked British players on the WTA Tour [live ranking]
- Emma Raducanu | world number 27 | 1,465 ranking points
- Sonay Kartal | world number 54 | 1,092 ranking points
- Katie Boulter | world number 61 | 1,036 ranking points
- Francesca Jones | world number 102 | 775 ranking points
If Boulter were to defeat Elisabetta Cocciaretto or Veronika Podrez in the Rouen Open quarter-finals, she would overtake Sonay Kartal in the WTA rankings and become the new British number two.
Where will Katie Boulter play after Rouen?
After competing in Rouen, Katie Boulter will travel to Spain for the Madrid Open.
The event, held in the Caja Magica, will take place from April 21 to May 2.
At last year’s event, Boulter defeated Katerina Siniakova before losing to Jasmine Paolini in straight sets.

As a result, Boulter is defending 35 WTA ranking points at this year’s event.
Paolini, who defeated Boulter 6-1, 6-2 in 56 minutes, lost in the next round to Maria Sakkari.
