Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner represent the biggest rivalry in men’s tennis – yet they appear to have a positive relationship.
Throughout their respective careers, there has been a mutual respect held by Alcaraz and Sinner, with the Spaniard recently acknowledging that the pair do not have to ‘hate each other’ during a recent ATP Finals press conference.
The pair’s rivalry appears similar to that of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – two rivals who maintain a strong friendship to this day.

While some may wish for more of a heated, full-blooded rivalry between the pair, their positive relationship will undoubtedly benefit the sport more than that of two players who share little respect and admiration for each other.
Positivity breeds positivity, and that can only be a good thing for tennis.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s relationship represents the best of tennis
Animosity between two elite athletes can result in an excellent rivalry, one that creates headlines and garners the attention of tennis fans across the globe.
However, a rivalry does not have to be this way to be successful, as proven by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz and Sinner’s mutual respect has only served to heighten the level of adoration fans have for the pair and strengthen a sense of kinship between the two athletes.
You only have to look at Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s rivalry to understand the positive outcomes that result from a positive rivalry.
Both Federer and Nadal are adored for their individual play and for what they have achieved during their respective careers.
However, both players are also adored because of the friendship they have with one another off the court.
This same sentiment can be applied to the friendship between Sinner and Alcaraz.
What did Carlos Alcaraz say about his relationship with Jannik Sinner?
Ahead of the ATP Finals, Alcaraz discussed the relationship and rivalry he has with his Italian rival.
As reported by TNT Sports, Alcaraz said: “It is quite good, the relationship we have off court is really good, he is a really nice person, he has really nice people around him, which is great, having time to talk to him about life, not only tennis.
“The people might be surprised about it, because when they think about that rivalry, they will think about fighting for great things, fighting for the No. 1 spot, we have to hate each other.
“I think that is not true, we step on the court, we have our goals, we want to do our best to win the match, but after when we shake hands off the court, we are the same person and I think that is a really healthy rivalry we have and I think that is great for the sport as well.”

The pair last faced each other in the final of the Six Kings Slam. They could play again for the final time in 2025 at the ATP Finals, as both players have qualified for the semi-finals.
