Andy Murray could follow in the footsteps of Juan Carlos Ferrero by becoming Carlos Alcaraz’s new coach.
Alcaraz and Ferrero confirmed their split ahead of the 2026 season, after an impressive six Grand Slams in six years.
The Spaniard is reportedly on the hunt for a new coach to work alongside Samuel Lopez, and Andy Murray could be the perfect fit.
The star has not only expressed an interest in working with Alcaraz before, but he’s refused to rule out coaching again after working with Novak Djokovic this year.

Andy Murray said he wanted to coach Carlos Alcaraz in 2022
In an interview with The Metro, Murray named Emma Raducanu, Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Jack Draper as players he would like to work with.
Murray explained: “They work hard, they seem like they love the sport. Alcaraz and Tsitsipas haven’t won a slam yet. They’re obviously still very young and I think they have the potential to do it.”
Alcaraz has, of course, grown into his potential now, but he would be no less appealing to Murray following his split with Ferrero.
Who would you like to see become Carlos Alcaraz’s new coach?
Murray has consistently refused to rule out returning to the coaching sphere, and said earlier this year that another role would happen again “at some stage.”
At Queen’s earlier this year, he added: “I don’t think that will happen immediately. I wasn’t planning on going into coaching as soon as I finished playing but it was a pretty unique opportunity. It was a chance to learn from one of the best athletes of all time.”
Alcaraz is widely considered one of the best athletes of his generation. If he were to come calling, it’s very unlikely Murray would say no.
What would Andy Murray bring to Carlos Alcaraz’s game?
Murray has long admired Alcaraz’s game and has heaped praise on the star’s lust for the sport in recent years.
Speaking in 2022, the Scot revealed: “The thing that I love about watching him is just the freedom that he plays with and part of that is youth I think.
“With Alcaraz now cementing himself as the man to beat on the tour, Murray doesn’t want to see the 20-year-old forget what made him so special. I just hope he doesn’t lose that.”
This provides an insight into how Murray would coach Alcaraz, giving him the freedom to be truly creative on the court.
If Murray and Alcaraz do align on a tennis court, it could be simply box office for the sport, as well as his rivalry with Jannik Sinner.
