Alexander Zverev has finally won a Grand Slam title.
The German star, who had lost three major finals in the past, defeated Flavio Cobolli on Sunday to win Roland Garros for the very first time.
In what was an intense, back-and-forth affair, Zverev held his nerve in the final set to triumph 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier.
How many more Grand Slams does Alexander Zverev win now?
What a final!
In March, Zverev stated that he would win a Grand Slam title this year – and his comments have now been vindicated.
However, despite his efforts on the Parisian red clay, Zverev cannot be considered a serious contender for the Wimbledon title.
Alexander Zverev has a poor record at Wimbledon
Alexander Zverev’s weakest surface is most certainly grass.
Zverev has failed to make it past the fourth round at Wimbledon, despite competing in the main draw on nine occasions.
Zverev’s struggles at the event were encapsulated in 2025, when he was stunned in the first round by unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.

Zverev has also never won a grass-court ATP titles, despite winning 25 ATP Tour titles in total throughout the course of his career.
He has qualified for grass-court ATP finals on three occasions: at the Halle Open in 2016 and 2017, and the 2025 Stuttgart Open.
Zverev’s game simply does not translate well to grass, as demonstrated by his historically poor results on the surface.
If Zverev lifts the Wimbledon Men’s Singles trophy next month, it would be one of the most shocking tournament results of the 21st century.

Alexander Zverev’s reaction after losing to Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon
Despite his historically poor record at Wimbledon, few expected Zverev to be defeated by Arthur Rinderknech in the first round of last year’s event.
However, the Frenchman upset the odds, defeating Zverev 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
After the contest, Zverev claimed he had played a ‘fantastic match’ and credited his opponent’s level of play.
“I think generally he played a fantastic match,” Zverev told reporters during his post-match press conference. “I’m not sure he’s ever played a match like that in his life.
Who is now the best active ATP player without a Grand Slam title after Alexander Zverev’s French Open victory?
“I was too defensive in some of the opportunities I had. But I felt like I had him in the fifth.
“I lost my serve from being 40-Love up, which was, yeah, I wouldn’t say unfortunate because it was my mistake doing that. I had it on my racquet, so… can’t say I was unlucky or anything like that.
“I mean, I let go. I let go of the match in the fifth set.”
