Andy Roddick’s triumph at the 2007 Davis Cup certainly ranks among his finest achievements.
After all, winning the Davis Cup demonstrates a player’s capabilities as both an individual player and as part of a collective.
Roddick, alongside a cohort of American stars, lifted the 2007 Davis Cup title after defeating Russia 4-1 in the final. They remain the last American team to win the Davis Cup.
After defeating Dmitry Tursunov in the opener, James Blake and the Bryan Brothers won their respective ties, securing the title for the world’s most successful Davis Cup team.
After capturing the Davis Cup title, Roddick – a Grand Slam champion and former world number one – pinpointed where his Davis Cup victory ranked among his other world-class achievements.

Andy Roddick said his Davis Cup victory was ‘on par’ with anything he had accomplished in tennis
Following victory against Russia in 2007, Roddick compared the US’ victory to his triumph at the 2003 US Open.
Roddick was only 21 years of age when he lifted his one and only major title in New York.
As per Sky Sports, Roddick said: “The Davis Cup probably doesn’t get as much recognition as it should. But to have shared the last seven, eight years has been great.
“It wasn’t really a seven, eight-year process to try to win the US Open, all of a sudden I was on tour and it happened before I knew it.
“But this has been a journey. Like Patrick said on court, we’ve been to some places. When you’re just with these guys we developed friendships. There’s so much that goes into this.
“Winning the US Open, trying to compete for slams, you’re playing for a lot of selfish reasons, but to come in here and to share this with these guys and to have developed the friendships and everything that goes along with it, the laughs and the tears, it’s just amazing.
“I think we’re trying as best we can to enjoy this. It’s definitely on par with anything that I’ve accomplished in tennis.”
A 19-year American Davis Cup drought
The wait for further US success in the Davis Cup has been put on hold once again after the country was knocked out in the second round of Davis Cup qualifying by Czechia.
The US led the tie 2-1 after victory for Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek in the doubles. However, both Taylor Fritz – who was struggling with illness – and Frances Tiafoe lost their second singles matches.
Tomas Berdych – who noted what surprised him about the US team – and his squad will travel to Bologna in November for the Davis Cup Finals.

Czechia have qualified alongside Italy, Austria, Germany, Argentina and France, with two more spots still available.
