Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner currently boast one of tennis’ most talented and captivating rivalries, and we are so lucky to have them.
It’s strange with this sport, given all the quality that fans have been treated to over the last few decades.
After all, as one superstar seems to be reaching the twilight of their career, there always seems to be another one, two, or even Big Three waiting in the wings for their opportunity to prove their worth.
In particular, trying to move on from the careers of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, it genuinely seemed impossible that men’s tennis could live up to such expectations.
And yet, here Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are, already capturing the attention of sporting fans far beyond just the tennis world.
Why Chris Evert compared Carlos Alcaraz to Martina Navratilova
It speaks volumes for their remarkable rivalry that Chris Evert, who was part of yet another legendary rivalry with Martina Navratilova, actually compared her competition with her compatriot to Alcaraz and Sinner’s.
Speaking after their extraordinary French Open final, she told Tennis365: “This rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner reminds me of what Martina and I shared in our day. There are some similarities in the way we played. I was the steady, consistent one, and Martina was the one who had all the shots in the book.

“You look at Alcaraz and Sinner now, and Carlos is the one with all the options, and Sinner is the steady one. It’s going to be an interesting rivalry, and I can’t see anyone coming into it to challenge those two.”
Navratilova made a prediction about Alcaraz back in 2022, as another huge fan of his. Remarkably, her claim has already come true.
Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping to copy Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon
If Alcaraz could ensure anything from the similarities between himself and Navratilova were true, it would surely be her grass-court pedigree.
After all, whilst he has not done too badly for himself in the first few years of his career, what the Czech-born superstar was able to produce consistently across her trophy-laden time playing tennis will be of particular interest to the 22-year-old.

She won a record number of Wimbledon titles, with no man or woman able to match her nine singles triumphs at the All-England Club.
Her dominance at that event was aided by the unpredictability and magic that Evert alluded to, and likely explains why Alcaraz has been so successful already too.
It will be really interesting to see whether Sinner can prevent his Spanish rival from achieving similar figures to Navratilova at Wimbledon across the next decade or so.
