What Stan Wawrinka said the ‘biggest titles’ of his career were above Grand Slams

Stan Wawrinka is set to walk away from tennis after confirming he would retire at the end of the 2026 season.

Wawrinka won three Grand Slams in his career in arguably the most difficult era in tennis as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic dominated.

The star captured the Australian Open in 2014, Roland Garros in 2015, and the US Open in 2016 during an exceptional stretch in his career.

Despite his multiple honours on the grandest stage, the Swiss star puts two other titles above his Grand Slam wins.

The ‘biggest titles’ of Stan Wawrinka’s career

As well as winning three major tournaments, Wawrinka also claimed 13 other titles throughout his stellar career.

However, the star picked two team events that meant more to him than any of the singles honours he collected.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

Speaking about his partnership with Federer, he said: “He helped me, we trained a lot together. I was lucky to be able to rub shoulders with him a lot, in training, in tournaments.

“In the Davis Cup, we shared a lot of things. Afterwards, he simply became a friend. We were a little at the same level, not career, but behaviour, mutual aid. I owe him a lot in my career. There were positive things.

“I grew and improved thanks to him. He helped me a lot. Thanks to him, I won the Olympic Games and the Davis Cup. Those are two of the biggest titles of my career.”

Wawrinka won a gold medal in the doubles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and he won the Davis Cup with Switzerland in 2014, both of which were alongside Federer.

Stan Wawrinka’s career highlights

Wawrinka’s three victories at Grand Slams are even more impressive when you consider the Swiss star’s record at other events.

He only managed to win one Masters title in his career, which came when he beat Federer in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters in 2014.
