Joao Fonseca had the chance to meet his hero, Roger Federer, at the Laver Cup and he’s finally revealed details of their conversation.
Fonseca’s brilliant debut year on the ATP Tour has seen the Brazilian teenager achieve some incredible things, including winning two tournaments in Argentina and Switzerland.
The teenager also made his debut at the Laver Cup earlier this year, where he became the youngest winner in the competition’s history by defeating Flavio Cobolli in San Francisco.
Federer conjured up the idea of the Laver Cup back in 2017 and Fonseca was able to meet the great man at the event.
Fonseca has finally revealed what he spoke about the Swiss superstar, and how it affected his life and career.

Joao Fonseca reveals details of his conversation with Roger Federer
Fonseca has made no secret about his adoration for Federer, who he grew up watching during his childhood in Brazil.
The star was floored to meet Federer at the Laver Cup and he’s shared what the two of them spoke about at the tournament.
“We had a nice chat, about 10 minutes, and we talked a little bit about life, tour, how it is to live in Brazil and be far from home,” said the Brazilian in an interview with CNN.
“He’s a super nice guy,” he added. “You see these amazing players, these legends, as untouchable (and think): this guy is different.
“But no, he’s just a human being like us, super cool. It was a very important moment; it’s going to be in my mind for my whole life.”
Fonseca’s performances at the 2025 Laver Cup helped ensure a win for Team World against Team Europe in San Francisco.
Joao Fonseca makes key decision on his 2025 season
Fonseca suffered an early defeat at the hands of Karen Khachanov at the Paris Masters and many thought the star would then extend his season.
The Brazilian has signed up for the inaugural Hellenic Championships in Athens, which is run by Novak Djokovic’s family.
However, the star has withdrawn from the tournament and ended his season early, bringing an end to his maiden ATP Tour.
However, that will not be the last time Fonseca plays tennis this season.
Fonseca has signed up for an exhibition match at the Miami Invitational on December 8, which will see him play Carlos Alcaraz for the first time.
