Novak Djokovic has not played for Serbia at the Davis Cup since 2024 during a tie against Greece.
The Serbian has often shone for his nation, and even lifted the trophy in 2010 after defeating France in the final.
Djokovic shows no signs of retiring from tennis yet, but he has understandably taken a step back from Davis Cup action.
However, the Serbian captain has provided a positive update on a potential Davis Cup appearance of Djokovic in 2026.

Viktor Troicki says Novak Djokovic ‘wants to play’ Davis Cup this year
Serbia will play a qualifying round against Chile at the Davis Cup, with Dusan Lajovic set to be the top seed for his nation.
Asked if Djokovic could play if Serbia continue their progress through the competition, Troicki said: “Novak thinks that Serbia can continue to progress in the Davis Cup and he would like to play and keep representing his country.
Can Carlos Alcaraz win MORE Grand Slams than Novak Djokovic? 🤔
Troicki suggested the reason for Djokovic’s inactivity at the Davis Cup was not down to his adoration of playing for Serbia.
The former world number 12 revealed: “For over 20 years, Djokovic has played with passion for our country.
“In recent years, it hasn’t been easy for him to play on different surfaces, and it’s hard for him not to be with the team. But he wants to play when he is available, and he still gives us his support.”
Djokovic’s starring role for Serbia in 2010 was the nation’s first and only Davis Cup win, and they became the 13th nation to lift the trophy.
They will be desperate for the 24-time Grand Slam champion to return to the fold and help them navigate the event.
Novak Djokovic’s opinion on the current Davis Cup format
The Davis Cup has undergone several changes over the years and Djokovic has not been a fan in the slightest.
The international tournament scrapped home and away ties in the latter stages, instead opting for a neutral location for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals.
The event is now hosted over four days and Djokovic revealed that he preferred the traditional format for the Davis Cup.
Novak Djokovic is the tennis GOAT… Prove us wrong
“Surely we all have different opinions, but I think that home and away ties are something that has made the Davis Cup famous,” he said in 2023.
“Now, giving a country the chance to host the Finals for five years in a row… is a bit much, in my opinion. The tournament has to travel. It is a competition that is played at a global level.”
The Davis Cup has been won by Italy in the last three years since the changes have been incorporated, and the event has been held in Bologna.
