Mirra Andreeva is into the Madrid Open final…
As per OptaAce, Mirra Andreeva is now the youngest player since Jelena Dokic in 2000 and 2001 to reach the quarterfinals in consecutive years at the Italian Open.
Dokic, like Andreeva, first made a name for herself on the WTA Tour at the age of 16.
At 16 years old, the Australian caused one of the biggest upsets in tennis history, beating Martina Hingis 6–2, 6–0 in the first round of the 1999 Wimbledon Championships.
Although she never won a Grand Slam title, Dokic [pictured below] has remained an iconic sporting figure.

As for Andreeva, she will be hoping to improve upon her performance at the 2025 Italian Open, where she was defeated in the last eight by Coco Gauff.
Andreeva now has the opportunity to avenge her loss to Gauff when she faces the American in the 2026 quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Gauff, the third seed, defeated Iva Jovic to advance to the quarter-final stage.
The winner of Gauff and Andreeva will play Sorana Cirstea or Jelena Ostapenko in the Italian Open semi-finals.

Mirra Andreeva reaches WTA landmark
Monday’s victory marked Mirra Andreeva’s 50th WTA 1000 victory since making her WTA 1000 debut at the 2023 Madrid Open.
Consequently, Andreeva is now only the second teenager after Coco Gauff to reach that mark.
Gauff, who made her first WTA 1000 main draw appearance at the 2019 Miami Open, won 53 WTA 1000 matches before turning 20 years old.

Andreeva has also now reached a 10th WTA 1000 quarter-final before turning 20 years old. Gauff is the only player to have qualified for more, with 13 quarter-final appearances before turning 20 years old.
