Andy Murray’s coaching partnership with Novak Djokovic was not as successful as many predicted it would be.
Murray and Djokovic worked together from November 2024 until May 2025, a period which saw the Serbian reach the final of the Miami Open and the semi-final of the Australian Open.
The all-star partnership did not see the pair claim any titles, but Djokovic won his 100th title at the Geneva Open in the same month he split from Murray.
In a new interview, Murray has revealed the key thing he took away from his ill-fated partnership with Djokovic.

What Andy Murray didn’t like about coaching Novak Djokovic
In an exclusive interview with Hello, Murray said he wanted to work with Djokovic because he wanted to “try lots of new things” and he described the partnership as a “unique opportunity.”
Ultimately, though, it helped him realise what he really wanted from this stage of his post-retirement career.
The three-time Grand Slam winner added: “I realised that I don’t want to be on the road either. I want to be at home.”
Where does Andy Murray rank among the best players in tennis?
This makes the star unlikely to return to full-time coaching in the near future, although he could work sporadically with up-and-coming stars.
Murray certainly has plenty of sage advice to offer after nearly two decades at the forefront of the ATP Tour.
Who Andy Murray said he wanted to coach back in 2022
During the twilight years of his career, Murray was asked which of the the current players he would like to coach once he retires.
The Scot revealed: “Female player would be Emma [Raducanu] and male players would be between [Carlos] Alcaraz, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas and Jack Draper.
“They work hard, they seem like they love the sport. Alcaraz and Tsitsipas haven’t won a Slam yet. They’re obviously still very young and I think they have the potential to do it.”
Alcaraz has, of course, won six Grand Slams since Murray gave that interview, but Draper and Tsitsipas are yet to win a major.
Tsitsipas worked with Goran Ivanisevic briefly, before returning to his father as coach in the middle of the 2025 season.
