Andy Murray saved his best tennis for Wimbledon, where he famously won the tournament on two occasions.

Murray won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, and reached another final in 2012, where he lost to Roger Federer.

The star won 60 times at the grass court tournament, which equates to a remarkable 82% win rate throughout his career.

In 2017, the star said he experienced something for the first time when he played Alexander Bublik in the first round.

Andy Murray shared a strange occurrence when he played Alexander Bublik at Wimbledon

Murray played Bublik in the first round of Wimbledon, a match he would eventually comfortably win in straight sets.

However, the match was halted due to a rain delay and Murray found himself chatting about the match before it had even finished.

Writing on his BBC Sport column, Murray said: “I’ve played well over 600 matches and I don’t remember ever discussing a match with my opponent while it’s still going on, but that’s what happened during the rain delay.

Where does Andy Murray rank among the best players in tennis?

“On the men’s, I would say top 20 [of all time]. Becker, Edberg, Wilander, Connors, McEnroe, Lendl [are all above him]. Andy was brilliant, amazing, but I’d put those guys ahead. Sampras, Agassi, Laver, Rosewall. I could name 15 ahead of Andy, easily. Bjorg.”

“When I beat Jarkko Nieminen in 2010, we met the Queen afterwards as she was visiting Wimbledon, and while Jarkko and I were waiting together we chatted a bit about the match.

“And when I beat Jurgen Melzer at the US Open in 2008, we passed each other after showering and he initiated a chat about the match. But that’s it, as far as I can remember.”

But that’s exactly what happened when Murray and Bublik were forced off due to the Wimbledon weather.

“I asked Bublik what he thought of Centre Court and whether he liked the grass, and we even discussed how many double faults he’d served. He’s a fun guy and entertaining, which is good for the game.”

Murray eventually won the match 6-1 6-4 6-2 to set up a second round match with Dustin Brown at the tournament.

The British star reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, but fell to Sam Querrey on Centre Court in five sets.

Andy Murray’s head-to-head record with Alexander Bublik

Murray and Bublik don’t feel as if they crossed over too much in their careers, but they ended up playing five times before the Scot retired.

The British star leads the head-to-head with three wins, which came at Wimbledon, Rotterdam, and Stuttgart.

Bublik defeated Murray at Indian Wells in 2022 and followed it up with an impressive grass court victory at Newport the same year.

The Kazakh player had, however, been critical of the way Murray handled the latter years of his tennis career.

Speaking about Murray and Nadal, Bublik said: “I don’t want to see them like this. They’re legends. They’re winning Slams. I mean, come on, it’s something on the other planet for a player like me.”
