Canadian star Victoria Mboko was stunned by Dayana Yastremska in the China Open round of 32 on Tuesday.

Yastremska, who also shocked Coco Gauff at Wimbledon earlier this year, defeated the 19-year-old 6-3, 7-6 on the Grandstand court in China.

Mboko became an overnight sensation in August, defeating four Grand Slam champions on her way to a maiden WTA 1000 title at the Canadian Open.

The Canadian is certainly one of the most exciting young talents on the WTA Tour, alongside Mirra Andreeva, Maya Joint and Linda Noskova.

However, the Canadian has struggled for form since her momentous triumph in Canada.

Victoria Mboko has failed to win a single set since the Canadian Open

Victoria Mboko has struggled mightily since the Canadian Open, losing her four matches since and failing to win a set.

As per reliable Portuguese journalist Jose Morgado, Mboko’s first loss after the Canadian Open came in the US Open first round, when she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets.

This loss was understandable: Krejcikova is a two-time Grand Slam singles champion.

However, the world number 22 then lost her first match at the China Open to Anastasia Potapova, a player ranked 53rd in the world.

At the Wuhan Open, the Canadian again lost in straight sets, this time to new world number 10 Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Mboko’s loss to Yastremska represented her fourth consecutive loss and the continuation of a concerning trend, one that the 19-year-old will hope to halt as soon as possible.
