Victoria Mboko posts message about Serena Williams as she confirms doubles partnership at Queen’s

Victoria Mboko and Serena Williams are set to play doubles together at the Queen’s Club Championship.

Serena confirmed her return to tennis on Monday. However, the specific collaboration between Serena and Mboko had not been confirmed by either the players or the tournament.

Serena, who last played a competitive match at the 2022 US Open, is now set to compete in her first WTA event for almost four years.

Mboko, the Canadian Open champion, confirmed the news of her partnership with Serena in a post on Instagram.

“The Queen is back,” Mboko posted on Instagram alongside a picture of herself and Serena on a Queen’s Club practice court.

“An honour to share the court with one of the greatest athletes of all time this week,” she added. “Even more excited to play doubles together!

“Tennis is pretty special.”

Serena is set to make her debut appearance at the Queen’s Club Championships when she participates in this year’s event.

Between 1973 and 2024, the event was a male-only tournament; meaning this year’s event represents Serena’s first opportunity to participate.

This year, Serena and Mboko are set to compete against a number of high-profile doubles players in London.

Aleksandra Krunic, Anna Danilina, Shuai Zhang, Nicole Melichar-Martinez, Cristina Bucsa, and Storm Hunter – all top-20 ranked doubles players – are all set to compete in this year’s event.

On Monday, Serena’s return to the professional tennis arena was confirmed by the Lawn Tennis Association [LTA].

“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” Serena said.

“Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

Laura Robson, the Queen’s Club Championships Tournament Director, expressed her excitement regarding Serena’s return to the sport.

“Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, and we’re delighted that she will be making her return to tennis at the LTA’s HSBC Championships,” said Robson.

“Women’s tennis made a historic return to The Queen’s Club last year, and now we have an icon of the game stepping back on to court at this prestigious venue – it’s very exciting for the tournament and the fans.”

The Queen’s Club Championships women’s events will take place from June 8 to 14. Tatjana Maria is the defending singles champion, and Demi Schuurs and Asia Muhammad are the defending doubles champions.
